Emil Zátopek locomotive

Škoda Transportation a.s.

The most modern locomotives of the ‘Emil Zátopek’ series (on the photo) have been designed for smooth operation on the railway corridors of all neighbouring countries of the Czech Republic and in Hungary. They are ready to utilise the ECTS/ERMTS unified European safety and control system and allow economic electro-dynamic regenerative braking. Their versatility makes them interoperable throughout Europe. Emil Zátopek, the most powerful domestic locomotive meets all the demanding technological parameters and the latest European TSI safety regulations.

It can be custom equipped with an external camera system and front information boards, for example. The shape of the casing has been designed to minimise aerodynamic noise and frontal drag at high speeds. The cabins are pressure-tight; heating, ventilation and air-conditioning are standard features. Fibre composites similar to those used in Formula 1 cars are used in the production process.

The manufacture of locomotives at Škoda Transportation is based on a long-term tradition. The first electric locomotive (type 1ELo) was produced as early as 1927. More than five and a half thousand electric locomotives have been produced since then.
