A MASTERFUL DIALOGUE
EMPATE, a.s.
When world-renowned architect Eva Jiřičná first sketched her vision of a new staircase for Pardubice Castle, many doubted whether it would even be possible to make tonnes of metal and glass "fly". However, in EMPATE's Brno workshop, they knew this was more than just a commission – it was a dialogue between tradition and the future.
This unique staircase, which seems to defy gravity, is not just a functional element. It is an imaginary sculpture – a spiral that, like a gentle breeze, appears to levitate within the historic space. The rawness of high-quality Czech steel, woven into a luxurious lace-like spider's web, intertwines with the ethereal purity of glass. Each of the 38 glass steps allows rays of sunlight to pass through, refracting along the edges and painting the magical effect of dancing rainbows across the castle's Renaissance walls.
Modern architecture can elevate history rather than suppressing it. Through this collaboration, EMPATE's master craftsmen have breathed life into a vision that will fascinate visitors for centuries to come.
